PESHAWAR: Activists of the Corridor Front, a group of different political parties and civil society organisations, on Monday asked the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government to adopt a clear stance and secure the provincial rights in the multi-billion dollars China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) Project.

Speaking at a press conference at the Peshawar Press Club, convener of the body Dr Said Alam Mehsud said the federal government had ignored Khyber Pakhtunkhwa in the CPEC and failed to keep the commitment it had made on the construction of Western alignment of the project as per the original plan of the project.

Awami Workers Party President Fanoos Gujar, Awami National Party-Wali provincial
president Farid Toofan, Ameer Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Nazriati Zubair Anjum, President of Fata Lawyers Forum Rahim Shah Advocate, Mazdoor Kissan Party President Yousuf Anwar and others were also present.

Said Alam claimed that the commissioner of Hazara Division had issued directives to residents of Battagram district to vacate houses falling in the route of CPEC. He said the orders were issued without consulting the residents to fix the price for land acquisition and compensating the owners.

He said the residents had announced to stage a protest against the decision on November 03. “We will participate in the protest rally in Battagram,” Dr Mehsud said. He asked the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government to take an unambiguous stance and protect the provincial rights in the fortune-changing project.

Farid Toofan criticised the political parties for silence over the denial of due rights to the KP province in the multi-billion dollars project.  He asked Pervaiz Khattak to ensure Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s rights in CPEC or step down.
