Believes PML-N will also form govt in KP after next polls; announces uplift projects worth billions of rupees for Kohat

KOHAT: Taking a jibe at the agitation of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif said on Friday that his political rivals are afraid of 2018 when their politics would come to an end, as his government’s development projects would expose the opponents’ hollowness.

Addressing a big gathering here at the Kohat Fort ground, he claimed that his party, the Pakistan Muslim League (PML-N), would form the government in Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (KP) after the next elections.

He announced projects worth four billion rupees for Kohat and its adjoining areas amid applause.A group of protesters belonging to the PTI, led by its MNA and the provincial law minister, tried to storm the public meeting of the PM but the PML-N workers thwarted the attempt. On this, the protesters set tyres on fire on the adjacent road and fired a few bullets in the air.

A large number of local police were present on the roadside but it did not stop the protesters.Referring to the presence of a large number of people in the public meeting, PM Nawaz said had the provincial government served the people, they would not have turned up in such a large number in the public meeting of the PML-N.

The PM said that the dream of converting Pakistan into a developed, strong and prosperous country would be fulfilled and his government was moving ahead on a faster pace on the same path. He recalled that loadshedding that was used to be 18 hours before 2013, had been reduced to a few hours only. It will be totally eliminated by 2018, he promised. Terrorism, which was rampant before the formation of the incumbent government, had been eliminated now, he added.

“We have broken the backbone of terrorists and the country would be free of it soon.” He paid rich tributes to the Jawans and officers of armed forces, police, administration and the people for their role in achieving the targets. He said the world was acknowledging that Pakistan was making good progress in the field of economy. He referred to the recent visits of the head of the International Monetary Institution to Pakistan who eulogised Pakistan’s progress in this field.

The PM performed the groundbreaking ceremony of a gas project worth Rs3.9 billion. “Four billion rupees is nothing, Nawaz Sharif is prepared to offer his life for you,” he told the gathering amid slogans. The PM also promised to open a hospital in Kohat and launch a project for free treatment.

The PM said the China Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) was under way at a fast pace and it would bring prosperity and progress to Pakistan. He assured the people that KP was bound to change and the PML-N would bring a change in the province. “Kohat-Pindigheb will be connected through a highway and the inhabitants of the area would become closer to Islamabad and Peshawar.” He said orders for the construction of the highway had been given to the National Highways Authority (NHA). The PM announced the construction of a campus at the Kohat University for Women. He said a railcar service would be launched from Rawalpindi to Kohat, which would link the area with the rest of the ountry.
