Chinese media gave a wide coverage to the formal opening of Gwadar sea port, terming it as a milestone in the development of decades’ old Sino-Pak strategic relationship.
A new era has started in the two countries’ relationship that also materialized the vision of President Xi’s China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) and China’s “Belt and Road”.
According to the reports, Chinese Ambassador to Pakistan Sun Weidong hailed the significance of the convoy successfully passing through the western part of Pakistan from north to south for the first time.
He noted that it was the first time for the Gwadar Port to export containerized cargo, as well as the first time China and Pakistan have jointly organized a trade convoy through Pakistan to the Gwadar Port.
Sun Weidong further said that the concept of “one corridor with multiple passages” under the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) has been realized as the first bilateral joint trade convoy reached Gwadar port from China’s Kashgar.
He added that the trade convoy was the best reflection of the spirits of mutual consultation, joint construction, mutual benefits and win-win cooperation, and the spirits would serve as the solid basis for the future construction of the CPEC.
Sun also commented that the CPEC has entered into full implementation with remarkable progress as 16 early harvest projects were under construction and tens of thousands of new jobs have been created for local people.
